Chipotle Guacamole Burger Patties
with smoked paprika sweet potato fries

Active: 45 min Total: 45 min

This is no ordinary burger! Spices and fresh cilantro in the burger patty and a good smear of guacamole on the finished product make these a long-time favorite in Cook Smarts' kitchens.
Smarts: The first time we featured these burgers in 2013 some community members found them to be a bit spicy, so we've reduced the amount of chipotle peppers used. If you like spice, feel free to increase the chipotles in the burgers and / or add some hot sauce to your guacamole.

Make

  1. Heat oven according to instructions for fries. (If you sliced your own sweet potatoes, heat oven to 425F / 218C degrees) Spread sweet potatoes / fries out on a sheet pan. Toss with oil and smoked paprika. (Add some salt if cooking raw sweet potatoes)
  2. If cooking on a grill: Heat grill to 450F / 232C degrees. Clean grates and brush with some oil.
  3. Transfer sweet potato fries to oven and bake according to package directions. (If cooking raw sweet potatoes, roast for 25 to 30 minutes, shaking the pan halfway through cooking)
  4. {grill}: While sweet potato fries bake, place burger patties on grill and grill on one side until grill marks appear, 2 to 3 minutes. Flip burgers and continue cooking until cooked to your liking - 2 to 3 minutes more for medium-rare, 3 to 4 minutes more for medium, 5 to 6 minutes more for well-done.
  5. If cooking burgers on the stovetop: While sweet potato fries bake, heat up a grill pan or skillet over high heat. Brush with some oil. Flip burgers and continue cooking until cooked to your liking - 2 to 3 minutes more for medium-rare, 3 to 4 minutes more for medium, 5 to 6 minutes more for well-done.
  6. Enjoy burger patties topped with guacamole. Serve fries on the side.

Fantastic burger, best CookSmarts burger yet. Tried 1 jalapeno and it wasn't spicy at all, so that could be upped. Next time we may try adding cheese and bacon.

Used 90/10 beef and skipped the jalapenos, the Chipotle peppers were plenty for us. Used frozen sweet potato fries and I was making plates 35 minutes later. My husband loved this Burger! Will definitely make this again.

So good! Very juicy and flavorful burgers. Love how simple and tasty the Cooksmarts guac is. Sometimes I like to add dijon mustard for an extra zing.

Very satisfying for a bunless burger. Frozen fries were so much quicker than cutting from scratch.

Really great guacamole. We left spicy ingredients out since we are babies with hot. Very filling and yummy!
